Girls Team Declarations

Many of you have already declared and registered online for the upcoming season, thank you.

Below is a link for those of you that still need to do so.
http://survey.usahockey.com/wsb.dll/3/nysahagirls.htm

Some of you may have recently seen Joe Eppolito’s email below.

All teams that plan to compete for a NYS or national title at either tier 1 or 2 are mandated to declare their intent prior to the upcoming fall meetings as outlined in the NYS guide as listed below:

1. Classification
a) Girls teams must declare their intention to compete at the Tier 1 or Tier
2 tournament bound level in writing to the Section President, or their
designee, prior to the fall section meeting. Within an association only one
team per age classification can be tournament bound regardless of their Tier
Status. All team declarations must receive Section approval.
b) Teams forming after the FALL meeting are still required to notify the
Section President, or their designee, of their intent to go tournament
bound. This notification must occur prior to December 1st and may be subject
to approval by the NYSAHA Board of Directors.

Regardless of being tournament bound or not, by declaring teams I can create
an awesome data base of contacts and appropriate info that can be shared
with all! Please get back to me if you have any questions! Please also feel free to
forward this info onto any and all other girl contacts you may have in NY!

Feel free to call or email me with any questions. Thank you.

Hockey Holiday Girl's Happening
(as featured in USA Hockey Email)

As the rink parking lot filled up with cars from New York and Pennsylvania, the sound of chatter and excitement filled the air. It was a crisp morning on December 6, 2008, that became the beginning of a soon-to-be tradition, the “1st Annual Hockey Holiday Girls Happening.” The U10 and U12 Learn to Play teams toted their gear into the rink where many would be playing their first game ever.

The first puck was dropped as the Indiana Lady Chiefs faced off against the Hamburg Lady Hawks. The stands were overflowing with fans, who came to cheer on all those who hit the ice. As the day progressed, the Erie Little Lady Lions faced off with the Amherst Little Lady Knights, Indiana raced for the puck against Fredonia and friendships were made as the U10 participants learned that the main reason for playing is fun.

With a break in the day’s competition, the girls were invited to watch a contest between the Erie Lady Lions U16 team and the West Seneca Wings. With wide eyes, the girls watched as they renewed their dreams of playing with the “big girls” some day. The first day concluded with a pizza party where the girls all met to chatter about the day’s events.

Sunday saw the final of the three-game gathering and, before the day ended, the smiles shined as brightly as the medals that all participants received. As the rink lights dimmed and the parking lot emptied, everyone knew the anticipation of the March Girls Hockey Happening would be in their minds until they all met again in Hamburg, N.Y., in four months to renew their new-found friendships and love of the game. Dates Announced for 2010 Hockey Weekend Across America

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The third annual Hockey Weekend Across America, a nationwide initiative led by USA Hockey to celebrate the game and those involved in the sport at all levels and expose hockey to new audiences, will take place on a different weekend, running from Jan. 29-30, 2010.

New for 2010 - Try Hockey For Free!
Hockey Weekend Across America has been a big success as a national platform to celebrate the game and in 2010, the event will have a stronger focus on growing the game. USA Hockey is seeking at least 200 rinks offering a free trial of hockey on Saturday, Jan. 30. All hosting rinks are required to hold the free trial at a consistent time of 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. local time. The final goal is to get as many first-time players on the ice and later transition them to each host site's full-time programs.

USA Hockey One Goal Program

USA Hockey and One Goal have partnered to help overcome the initial cost barrier of entering into hockey by making available, at a very low cost, special First-Timer Equipment Kits for all interested USA Hockey associations and Star ice rinks. By taking advantage of this special offer you can take a vital, active role in making it easier for parents to give hockey a chance in their family.

Each Set costs just $60.00. Sets will include helmet w/cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, pants, gloves, shin pads and bag. Sets are available in two sizes - Small, for 4-6 year olds and Large, for 6-8 year olds. The equipment sets are co-branded USA Hockey/ OneGoal and marked Rental (In Large Block Lettering) to encourage the recycle use for starter programs and not long term use or resale.

NYSAHA has initially ordered 500 sets and is making them available to our Associations for a cost of $50.00 each with no minimum. Please coordinate within your Association if and how many sets and what sizes you would like.

This Applies To All:

Recently a tournament was held in the West Section that was not sanctioned and at least one team in the tournament was not a rostered USA Hockey Team. Unfortunately 2 Match penalties were assessed and we have no jurisdiction over this.

I am strongly recommending that Associations approve when a team enters a tournament or at least is made aware of that team entering. This is where my previous E-mails about Associations being responsible for the actions of there teams comes into place. There are several ramifications of a team playing in one of these tournaments. The games do not count towards any NYS or USA Hockey tournaments and of course the possible legal problems if a player or coach is injured especially if the team has not informed the players and parents that the tournament is not sanctioned by USA Hockey. This also applies to Canadian non sanctioned tournaments. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Please protect yourselves, your families, and homes by making sure that your teams are not participating in non sanctioned USA Hockey Tournaments or games.
